Caterpillar Program

Early Years ( RASP Facilitated) - Behaviour Intervention Services

Our Caterpillar Program aims to support children with diverse needs from the age of 2, until primarily between the ages of 7- 8 years of age with Behaviour Intervention Services. This program is directly overseen and run by our Early Learning Years Director and BCBA, Nicole Grocock. In addition, this program is facilitated by our Assistant Behaviour Consultant, Kyla Gauthier (currently working towards BCBA), and our many dedicated and trained Behaviour Interventionists. We are centre-based, therefore this program is best suited for families that can commit to getting their child to and from services continually.

Our Consultants work with each family to develop a program and plan that meets each child's individualized needs. While not an exhaustive list, these programs can include support around toileting, communication, sleep training, social skills, cognitive/ academics, challenging behaviours, personal independence, hygiene, transitions, elopement, and more. This may also include supporting families in home where needed, advocacy within the community, or attending team-based meetings or IEPs.

Our Behaviour Interventionists are skillfully placed with each child where they may be best suited to meet that child's individual needs and interests. Together, the Behaviour interventionist will work to build a strong rapport with each child which is the basis before any learning and demands can be placed. After doing so, the Behaviour Interventionist will work on implementing the programs set in place by the BCBA for each child, in a supportive and fun environment.

Caterpillar Program ( 2 - 8 years) : Our centre-based program pairs each child with their own individual Behaviour interventionist, while also allowing opportunities for peer interaction, with the potential for up to 5 children and their BI's present at one given time. This program follows a daily routine that includes opportunities like circle time, crafts, snack time, and supported peer play; along with time spent working separately on individualized goals away from the group setting. This is adaptable depending on the goals and best support needs of each child, particularly, this may be more individualized when a child is just starting services.

For children under the age of 6 years, a minimum of 2 days per week is required, with families able to choose up to 5 days per week should they wish. (The typical number of days selected is 3).

For children that have turned 6 years of age, and have further goals to reach before moving to a peer model, only 1 day a week is required.

Cater - Peer Support Program ( 6 - 8 years) : This continuation beyond our Caterpillar programming is for children who are 6 years of age and meet our basic requirements for peer sessions. Our peer sessions are a carefully selected group of up to 3 children with similar goals, facilitated by our Assistant Behaviour Consultant. This program allows families to better utilize over 6 funding while allowing opportunities for further social skill opportunities with peers and faded back adult support.
